Supports for Students
Red Deer Public Schools provides inclusive programming and offers a wide range of supports for students with diverse learning needs. To honor the unique and changing needs of our students, we recognize the importance of ensuring supports are available to provide the most equitable learning environment. Red Deer Public Schools has a variety of models to support children, youth and families. These include:
School Based Supports
Learning Assistance Team Model.
Each school employs a Learning Assistance teacher and Educational Assistants who focus on support for curriculum, staff capacity building and collaboration to support the learning of students with diverse learning needs.
Central Alberta Regional Collaborative Service Delivery Model (CA RCSD)
Central Alberta Regional Collaborative Services Delivery (CA RCSD): The CA RCSD is a regional collaborative services delivery team developed to more effectively meet the learning needs and well-being of children and youth. All children and youth who are registered students will have access to services that support their learning needs in an inclusive school environment.
The type of service will vary depending on the needs of the individual. There will be two types of service providers:

- RCSD Enhanced Service Delivery

Learning Assistance Teachers
The LAT is the key person on the school learning team to assist with all elements leading to furthering inclusive opportunities for all students in the school. The LAT will work directly with district personnel, counsellors, Child and Family Services and Alberta Health Services to facilitate quality programming and wraparound services to students.
The role of the counsellor is to provide comprehensive support in the areas of educational, personal and/or career counselling for students. The school counsellor is a certificated teacher and member of the school team.
Community Liaison Workers
The Red Deer Public Schools Community Liaison Workers serve children, youth and young adults within their home, school and community. The goal of our Community Liaison Worker is to support hte wellness of students and their families so they can succeed in school.
Our Community Liaison Workers are professional staff who are part of each school's Student Support Teams and are dedicated to helping children, parents, and families. The service focuses on early intervention and prevention that supports the social, emotional and mental wellness of individuals.
Alberta Health Services, Mental Health and Addictions
Children’s Mental Health Therapists are assigned to each school by Alberta Health Services to assist with diagnosis and understanding or treating mental health disorders or issues. Services may take place at Alberta Health Services or at the school.
