Red Deer Public benefits from capital projects funding announcement
District receives $4.1 million for shovel ready projects
Red Deer Public Schools will receive $4.1 million as part of the Capital Maintenance and Renewal funding announced by the provincial government this week.
“This funding announcement is welcomed news,” said Board Chair Nicole Buchanan. “These dollars are something that weren’t expected and will provide economic stimulus for our province and support people getting back to work in these challenging times. We have a number of projects that we’ll be able to tackle because of this additional funding, which will help ensure our buildings are safe and secure and ready to welcome back students when the time comes.”
The funding announcement will allow Red Deer Public to proceed with a number of initiatives including roofing projects, boiler replacements, a replacement of a building envelope and improved security in our schools.
“There is never a shortage of projects and we have a number of them ready to go,” said Della Ruston, Associate Superintendent, System Services. “In the coming days we will prioritize the projects in our District that we will proceed with and we very much look forward to getting these projects started immediately.”
“We want to thank the provincial government for these additional funds, which will allow us to enhance our learning spaces,” said Buchanan. “We appreciate their support in ensuring our schools are the best they can be for our students and staff.”
