Red Deer Public Schools Flag Raising Ceremony

Red Deer Public Schools is moving forward in its Truth and Reconciliation journey. On June 14th 2017, Red Deer Public Schools will raise the Alberta, Treaty Six, Treaty Seven, and Métis Nation flags.

This event will serve as a district response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in recognition of the First Nations and Métis people, as well as recognizing the history and treaties of this area.

The ceremony will take place from 11am-12pm at Central Services Office, address 4747 53 Street. Special guests include:

  • Corky Jonasson and Lynn Jonasson, First Nations Elders
  • Rosena Winnie, Community Elder
  • John Ermineskin, Chairman of Elder’s Advisory Council
  • Norrine Saddleback, Treaty Advisor
  • Raye St. Deny, Métis Nation Local
  • Bev Manning, Board Chair of Red Deer Public Schools
  • Tara Veer, Mayor
  • Kim Schreiner, MLA Red Deer North

By raising the flags and having them on permanent display in front of the school district office, we are acknowledging the traditional lands the school district is on.
