My daughters are fortunate to have been taught by outstanding educators. Our school system in Red Deer is excellent. I became a trustee because I want to be a part of the team that ensures each child receives an excellent education. Also, I have spent a lot of my career in education. I am trained in communications and have helped schools reach out to their communities. I believe jurisdictions do better, and most importantly children do better, when we partner with families and our community.
As a new trustee, I have a lot to learn about the district's priorities. However, from what I do understand, I am pleased that the district has been working on literacy. I completely support this focus. Also, I am happy it has added numeracy to its focus as this is also key for our students. Another area I believe must be a continued priority is mental health. And finally, I am very passionate about strengthening relationships between home and school, and between the district and community.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and have previous experience in tv reporting, a communication officer with Chinook's Edge School Division, communications consultant and writer, and a music director/teacher for Cornerstone Youth Theatre.
I am married to Will Woodward. We have lived in Red Deer since 2001. Our oldest daughter is married and lives in Calgary. We have two daughters currently attending Red Deer Public Schools.
