French Immersion is designed for students whose first language is not French and whose parents do not speak French in the home. French Immersion gives students the opportunity to become highly functional in oral and written communication in French by the end of grade 12. 

What is Late French Immersion?

Late French Immersion gives English-speaking children the opportunity to learn the French language in an immersion setting.

At Central Middle School, students take their core subjects, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math, in French following the same program of studies as students in the English stream. Their options and Physical Education are taught in English.

We have two immersion streams at Central - Early French Immersion, beginning in kindergarten and Late French Immersion, beginning in grade six. 

École Intermédiaire Central Middle School offers a challenging program specially designed for the grade six student who:

  • has a strong desire to be able to communicate in French.
  • is looking for a challenge.
  • has strong basic skills in their first language and is working at grade level in all core subjects.
  • is willing to take risks.
  • has good work habits.
  • has good listening skills.
  • is an independent learner.
  • is a problem solver.
  • is able to deal with the frustration of learning a second language.
  • has a support system at home to encourage positive attitudes and commitment.
  • is willing to read, listen to and use French as much as possible.
  • is motivated to learn and be successful.
