
RDPSD welcomes Social Studies Coordinator to lead curriculum rollout
Posted onWith Alberta Education’s new K-6 Social Studies curriculum on the horizon, Red Deer Public Schools has hired a Social Studies Coordinator to support teachers and ensure a smooth transition in classrooms.
In this role, Coordinator Janene Baile, will help deliver the new curriculum to teachers, develop educational resources, and provide professional learning opportunities to enhance student learning. The position reflects Red Deer Public’s commitment to investing in staff and ensuring teachers have the tools they need to bring engaging, high-quality instruction to students.
“We are committed to supporting our teachers as they implement the new curriculum,” said Dan Lower, Deputy Superintendent. “Having a dedicated Social Studies Coordinator will ensure our educators feel confident and well-equipped to bring meaningful learning experiences to students. Janene brings a wealth of expertise and passion, and we are excited to have her lead this work.”
As a Lindsay Thurber graduate in the French Immersion program, the opportunity to help shape Social Studies education in Red Deer Public is an exciting one for Janene.
“Social Studies is all about helping students think critically, understand different perspectives, and engage with the world around them,” she said. “I look forward to working with our amazing teachers to make the new curriculum come alive in the classrooms.”
Janene has been a teacher in Red Deer Public for 12 years. Prior to the Social Studies Coordinator role, she taught Grade 5 French Immersion at École Oriole Park for two years. Her background includes teaching Kindergarten to Grade 3 in both the English and French Immersion programs at Joseph Welsh Elementary and École Mountview.
Janene will begin working with teachers in the coming weeks as preparations for the new curriculum rollout get underway.
