School Profile

One of the true pioneers and community builders of Red Deer was George Wilbert Smith. In 1963, the new school in the Sunnybrook subdivision was named George Wilbert Smith Elementary in honour of this founder of Red Deer’s public school system.

G.W. Smith Elementary School is located in the city of Red Deer and is part of Red Deer Public Schools. Our attendance area includes Sunnybrook, Sunnybrook Extension, Southbrook, Anders Park, Anders Park East, Anders South, and Aspen Ridge. G.W. Smith has approximately 250 students and a staff of 25 professional and classified staff.  It is a Pre-kindergarten to Grade 5 School with a diverse student population.
