Lindsay Thurber’s MegaBowl scores $7,000 for CAWES
Posted onThe energy was high and the competition friendly as Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School held its third annual MegaBowl - a much-anticipated hockey game between staff and students - all in support of a great cause. This year’s event raised an incredible $7,023 for the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES), and was spearheaded by LTCHS Teachers Mark Graham, Ryan Hunter and Turner Lachance.
The spirited showdown, held on March 26 at the Servus Arena in Red Deer, brought the school community together in a powerful display of teamwork, school pride, and compassion. Students led the charge in gathering sponsorships from local businesses and individuals ahead of the game, with all proceeds supporting CAWES and its work providing safety, shelter, and support to women and children fleeing domestic violence.
“We chose the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter because of the critical support they provide to some of the most vulnerable in our community,” said Chris Good, Principal at LTCHS. “Our students showed real leadership and heart from organizing sponsorships to cheering each other on. The staff also gave it their all, both on and off the ice. It was amazing to see everyone come together for such an important cause.”
The MegaBowl has become a tradition at Lindsay Thurber, combining school spirit with meaningful community impact. Organizations that have benefited from the event in the past include the Red Deer Food Bank and the Central Alberta Humane Society. This year’s total marks the highest fundraising efforts in the event’s three-year history.
“This year’s event was our most successful MegaBowl yet. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all students, staff, families and community sponsors who made the event such a success,” said Chris. “We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support that we received.”
