Lindsay Thurber improv teams shine at provincial competitions

Posted on

Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School’s Improv Teams continue to showcase their exceptional talent, earning top honours at recent competitions. The Nosebowl Team secured a silver medal at the Wildfire Festival, while the Canadian Improv Games Team earned a bronze medal, highlighting the dedication and creativity of these young performers.

“Nosebowl is always very fun,” said Tara Koett, Teacher at Lindsay Thurber. “Theatresports is a really fun format for kids. It encourages risk-taking and play. There is a lot of freedom in how they meet challenges, how they play the game, and it’s teaching them a lot about crowd work, and about the shape of a show as improvisers and as comedians.”

The Nosebowl Team’s silver medal performance was especially exciting, considering the mix of experience among team members. “They were really thrilled. They were really happy with their performance,” said Koett.

The Canadian Improv Games, a national youth theatre program that fosters creativity, teamwork, and improvisational skills, provided another opportunity for Lindsay Thurber students to shine. Entering the finals in fifth place, the team embraced the spirit of play and joy, ultimately earning the bronze medal.

“Our kids went into it with the best attitude. They were so playful and so joyful,” said Koett. “It was really fun, and the kids just had so much fun, and that’s what brought them up to the bronze medal. I was especially proud of them because they earned that by taking risks and not being focused on scores and competition.”

For students to compete on the provincial stage at the high school level is an achievement worth celebrating.

“The students work hard and care about the craft,” Tara added. “It takes a lot of courage, and I am so proud of them.”

Chris Good, Principal at Lindsay Thurber, also praised the students for their outstanding performances. “Our improv teams continue to impress us with their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Their success at these competitions is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”
