Thurber students to bring Footloose to life on stage

Get ready to cut loose as Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School is set to bring the high-energy musical Footloose to the stage!

The production runs March 19-22 at the Red Deer Polytechnic Arts Centre Main Stage.

Featuring a cast and crew of about 70 students, including actors, a technical team and a live pit band, this production promises to dazzle audiences with its dynamic performances, stunning visuals, and chart-topping soundtrack.

“The show is so much fun, but it also carries a powerful message,” said Tara Koett, Director of the production. “At its core, Footloose is about a son who’s lost his father, and a father who's lost his son - both struggling to find common ground. It is a story of grief and reconciliation, family, and faith. That emotional depth has given our students so much to explore, and the acting this year is breathtaking. Some scenes are incredibly moving and beautiful, while others explode with energy and excitement.”

This year’s production marks 15 years since Lindsay Thurber has staged Footloose, and Tara is thrilled to see it return. “It’s a huge celebration of the community of support that this program has,” she said. “The kids have been working tremendously hard, supporting one another every step of the way. With a fresh group bringing new energy, it’s been amazing to watch them take on this challenge.”

From electrifying dance numbers to the detailed technical design, audiences can expect to be entertained by the much-anticipated production.

“These kids have worked hard, learned a lot and set high expectations for themselves,” said Tara. “The quality of the dancing, acting and the attention to detail that has gone into the technical design is strong. Footloose is going to be a fantastic show that will not only have audiences dancing in their seats, but might even inspire some to get on stage themselves!”
