Students design Orange Shirt Day logos

Orange Shirt Day

More than 100 entries were gathered from across our Division of student artwork for this year's Orange Shirt Day logo design contest.

First place went to Madisyn Maciborsky, a Grade 6 student at Westpark Middle School, while second place was given to Summer Bashir Biow, a Grade 7 student at Normandeau School. Third place went to Olive Buchanan, a Grade 5 student at Ecole Mountview Elementary.

The theme of this year’s Orange Shirt logo design contest was Turtle Island, which is a name for Earth or North America used by some Indigenous peoples. That theme was depicted in Madisyn's design.

Madisyn's logo design will be printed on this year's Orange Shirt, which will be sold at the Red Deer Native Friendship Society. All of the designs will be on display at the Waskasoo Seepee Traditional Pow-wow and Youth Day Gathering on June 23-24 in Red Deer.
